Rational Lies
The average person has between 12,000 and 60,000 thoughts per day… No doubt by assuming “average” means “normal,” I’m sure these individuals run into their own metaphorical road blocks and challenges like the rest of us.
In my home town, as of a 2000 census, there were 197,800 people living in it!
197,800 x 12,000 thoughts (conservatively) = 2,373,600 unique ideas and thoughts that happen within a 15 mile radius of my home, EVERY DAY!
So, if that is the case, my questions is WHERE ARE ALL THE GREAT INNOVATORS!?!?!?
I think the answer is found in what many would call “reality.” You see, we place our own limits on our creativity.
We tell ourselves rational-lies (rationalize) like:
That would never work.
You have no idea how to go about doing that!
Do you realize how much that would cost? No way.
It’s already been done, no sense in doing it yourself.
Nothing you can do about it. It’s just how it is!
Lies!
Challenge yourself to think OUTside of what others perceive to be rational. If only 1 out of 10 ideas made sense, would it be worth it? (I'll help you with the answer... YES!)
Thomas Edison failed thousands of times before he successfully innovated the light bulb.
The same could be said for folks like:
Ray Crock –McDonalds franchising (when nobody had ever done this before)
Dr. Joanne Lyon- World Hope International started after jumping into the unknown with only an idea. (no money)
Larry Page and Sergey Brin- Who started Google solely on the idea of researching in 1998. (keep in mind Yahoo, Lycos, Alta Vista, Dogpile, and others DOMINATED at this time)
Nothing great ever comes from cover bands… Be willing to take a risk, step out there with originality, and allow those ideas to grow legs, baby!
Run with ‘em!
