FLOW

Creative FLOW

In Daniel Pink’s book DRIVE, he talks about the concept of “FLOW.” Flow is simply that current of natural “umph” that swallows you up like an under toe but feels so natural and right that you can feel God smiling when you are doing it.

It is simply doing what you were born to do.

Can “FLOW” actually exist in today’s workplace? Is it even right to love what you “do?”

Solomon addresses this in Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 (New International Version)
18 Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him—for this is his lot. 19 Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work—this is a gift of God. 20 He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.

So if we take what Solomon is saying literally, then:

1. It is proper for a person to find satisfaction in their work because…
2. Their work is a gift from God.
3. If we receive the gift of this from God, then our hearts will be preoccupied with gladness!

Just last night, I was developing a sermon talk… and time FLEW by. I had way more energy when I was done that when I started. I felt “God’s pleasure.”

When I brainstorm, and create ideas from thin air… I feel FLOW.
When I engage in “iron sharpening iron” conversation, I feel FLOW.

When do you feel FLOW? What were YOU BORN TO DO?
