Problems and Trials
Ever hear someone say, “Why do BAD things happen to GOOD people?!”
I have. And this statement is not true.
Bad things happen to all people, at some point. The “difference maker” is in how we respond to adversity, trials, and tribulations.
Let’s take a look at Paul’s charge to the Roman Church, discussing this very topic…
Paul wrote:
Romans 5:3-5 (New Living Translation)
3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
When bad things happen, we should embrace them as opportunities for our faith to develop endurance. How we respond in the moment determines the amount of strength our character (and hope of salvation) develops!
We may not understand WHY the bad things in life come about, but we do know this: God loves us dearly, and wants to condition our hearts for abundant levels of faith and love… even if that means growing our spiritual muscles with a little pain along the way.
